I am the proud owner of PeaceJoySoccer.com which means it's time to build a website.
I have researched if I should bring soccer balls with me deflated, ship them or buy them in Greece. Purchasing them in Greece is the best solution because I am not dependent on the timeline of the cargo ship, paying to ship the items, paying the VAT, aka taxes, and if I don't arrive to claim my goods, I will have to pay storage fees daily. It is also a chance to support the local economy.
I researched Crowdfunding sites and decided on YouCaring instead of GoFundMe because YouCaring does not charge a fee to use their site and fund-raise. The billing institutions, like PayPal for example, charge a percentage or a fee per transaction.
Researched renting a PO Box in case people want to contribute directly to the cause through me instead of the YouCaring site. I suspect my family and close friends will avoid the technological hassles. Also, the PO Box will receive handmade cards and pictures that I will pass out to the refugees.
The best chance of spreading the word is through social media, so I need to start a Facebook Page.
Lastly, I need someone to receive me at the camp. I am targeting Athens, the Skaramangas Camp. There's a camp in Thessaloniki which would be a challenge for me to get to and there is a camp on Lesvos. The boat ride to Lesvos would use up a day of travel, but I am willing to go there if that is where I will be received. Transporting soccer balls may be a challenge, but I will find a way. I always do.
