Was introduced to a woman that has been volunteering at the refugee camps in Greece for the last 3 months. She sent over a list of all the current camps, the number of people in each camp and which bus to take to get each. While I don’t foresee myself taking a bus with lots of soccer balls, it’s always great to have options.
After learning her role, the conditions of the camps and listening to her insights, I shared the mission: Peace Joy Soccer and she said the number one request she received from children and parents alike was, “Can you get me soccer ball?” Tears started streaming down my face when she said those words; tears of joy. She said soccer balls were like liquid gold in the camps. At one camp a few players from a soccer team in Athens goes weekly to organize a game and play soccer with the kids. I am hoping to find a way contact them to help distribute the soccer balls. Things are falling into place, but am still working through a lot of logistics.
