This news story was written in Greek. Here's the rough translation. . .
Alexandra Christ, originally from Greece (from immigrant family) and from Lebanon, had an idea: To create an action to help children of refugees and migrants who are currently in Greece, in the various hot spots and structures and hospitality, as well as children in local communities in Athens, sharing joy. How? With Soccer! She managed within 2 months, to gather quite a large sum of money through donations from her community in California and she was able to purchase soccer balls.
She travelled to Greece with a volunteer named, Shea Whelan and having visited the camps Eleonas and Schisto, she shared balls with refugee children. Then she visited our community offering balls to the all unaccompanied minors-refugees hosted in the guest house (orphanage) of NGO Mission of the Holy Archdiocese of Athen based in our municipality, and also served the kindergartens in our city.
The action of Alexandra is called PeaceJoySoccer and our municipality thanks her her sensitivity for helping our community.
At the orphanage, the mayor had the opportunity to speak with our social worker, searching for ways in which the boys hosted there could be further integrated into the local society, synchronizing within the city and participate in artistic, athletic and voluntary activities.
